Page Order for Confluence

Page Order for Confluence

Sort child pages and move many pages at once, then save when it looks right.

v3.3.0 — Latest Runs on Atlassian Atlassian Forge Confluence Cloud

Overview

Put a parent’s child pages in order in one step, and move many pages at once.

Confluence adds each new page to the end of its parent’s list, and its page tree moves one page per drag. Putting a long list in order means dragging every page by hand.

Page Order sorts the child pages of any page, folder or space in one step: A to Z, Z to A, newest, oldest or recently updated, with numbers in titles sorted as numbers. Drag across pages to select a group, then drag it to a new spot, drop it into another page, or send it to another parent or space with Move to…. Child pages always go with their parent.

Nothing changes in Confluence until you press Save changes. Until then every change waits in the Unsaved changes panel, which lists each one and the pages in it, so you see exactly what a save will do before it runs.

The app acts only as you, so it never moves a page you couldn’t move by hand. It stores nothing and runs entirely inside Confluence on Atlassian Forge, with no external server in the path. Start with the User guide, or jump to whichever page you need.

Three ways in

  • Organize Child Pages in any page’s ••• menu — opens in a dialog, already showing that page’s child pages.
  • Page Order in a space’s sidebar — opens at the space’s top-level pages.
  • Page Order for Confluence under Apps — choose any space you can see, then organize it.

All three open the same organizer. Where to open it covers where each one starts and when to use which.

Your first sort in a minute

Say the Policies page in a Team Handbook space has a dozen child pages in the order they were written, and you want them A to Z.

  1. Open Policies, open its ••• menu and select Organize Child Pages. Its child pages appear in the order Confluence’s page tree shows them.
  2. Click Sort all and choose A to Z. Leave Sort numbers by value ticked, so 2 comes before 10.
  3. The list takes the new order, with ▲/▼ marks showing how far each page moves. The Unsaved changes panel appears beside it with a summary such as 8 page moves. Saving can’t be undone. Open 8 pages change place under Policies to see each page’s old and new position.
  4. Click Save changes, and keep the tab open while the panel counts the moves.
  5. When the panel says Saved (8 pages moved.), Confluence’s own page tree shows the same order.

Changing the order needs Space admin or Manage all content in that space, the same permissions Confluence’s own Move needs. Without either you can see the order but not change it — see the Admin guide.
