Page Order for Confluence

Where to open it

Three ways into the app, where each one starts, and when to use which.

v3.3.0 — Latest Runs on Atlassian Atlassian Forge Confluence Cloud

Three ways in

  1. Open the ••• menu on any page and select Organize Child Pages.
  2. Click Page Order in a space’s sidebar.
  3. Click Page Order for Confluence under Apps, then choose a space.

All three open the same organizer, headed Organize Child Pages with the space’s name beside it. They differ in where it starts and how it is framed. Whichever you use, nothing changes in Confluence until you press Save changes.

From a space: Page Order

Page Order sits in each space’s sidebar. It opens the organizer on a full page at the space’s top level: the pages directly under the space’s home page, which is where Confluence keeps a space’s top-level pages. A line above the list says so:

These are the top-level pages of Team Handbook. Drag across them to select, then drag to reorder. Moving a page moves all its child pages with it.

Use it to tidy the top of a space, or as a starting point: click any page’s title to open its child pages, and use the breadcrumb above the list to go back up.

From Apps: Page Order for Confluence

Page Order for Confluence under Apps opens Choose a space to organize: every space you can see, most recently updated first.

Choose a space to organize: a Search spaces box, then a table of four spaces (Archive, Team Handbook, Support and Alex Morgan) with their type, when each was last updated, and a Select link on every row
Choose a space to organize, most recently updated first.
  • Search spaces filters by space name. The count above the table (4 spaces, most recently updated first) shows how many match.
  • Each row shows the space, its Type (Team or Personal) and when a page or blog post in it was Last updated. A space with no pages yet reads No pages yet.
  • The table shows 20 spaces at a time, with Previous and Next below it when there are more.
  • Select opens that space at its top level, exactly as Page Order in its sidebar would. A space without a home page can’t be selected.
Team Handbook opened from Apps: Choose another space above the Organize Child Pages heading, the page tree on the left, and the space’s five top-level pages (Teams, Policies, Projects, Meeting notes and How we work) in a list with Sort all
Team Handbook opened from Apps, at its top level.

← Choose another space, above the organizer, takes you back to the list. With unsaved changes it asks first, the same way Close does in the dialog.

What every way in shares

  • The page tree. The space’s page tree sits beside the list. Click any page or folder in it to show its child pages, or drop pages on it to move them there. Hide page tree gives the list the full width, and your browser remembers the choice.
  • Going down and back up. Click a page’s title in the list to open its child pages; the breadcrumb above the list goes back up.
  • One set of unsaved changes. Changes under one parent stay staged while you open others, so you can move pages under a new parent, open it, put them exactly where they belong, and save everything together.
  • Your permissions. However you came in, the app acts as you: pages you can’t see don’t appear, and changing the order needs Space admin or Manage all content in that space — see the Admin guide.

The User guide walks through the organizer itself.
